History of Interstate Stock & Custom Car Club!

Interstate Stock & Custom unofficially began in Ray Madson's garage back in 1985. Talking about having gone to car shows together and talking about helping one another building and working on their own cars lead to the idea of beginning a Car Club. This idea included more than just antique cars.

Plans were set up to meet in Al Torkko's basement family room to finalize their "car club," and ISSC was finally started.

The founders at this meeting were Ray Madson, Bob Baxter, Dean Phillips, Al Torkko, Steve Kehoe, Charles Salewsky, Pierre Chevalier, Mike Majkrazk, Paul Kraus, Dave Davidson, and Sheri Zorn.

The main members of the Club at that time were:

Sheri Zorn; President,

Bob Baxter; Vice President,

Steve Kehoe; Treasurer,

Bonnie Kovach; Secretary,

Ron Kovach; Correspondent,

Vanessa Kovach; mascot,

Ray Madson; board member,

Al Torkko; board member,

Charles Salewsky; board member,

Pierre Chevalier; board member,

Dave Callow; board member,

Bob Armstrong; board member,

and Dave Davidson; board member.

This informal gathering lead to meetings at the Lloyd Goodfellowship Hall. Bob Baxter became the Vice President of the Club soon after. This was in 1986.

Since 1986, the Club has been holding an annual Car Show. Spies Field, First St. in Menominee, the Armory in Marinette, Main St. in Marinette, and Stephenson Island in Marinette have all hosted the Club's Car Shows. This year, and years to come, the Club will promote their annual 20,000 Horses Car Shows at Stephenson Island in Marinette, WI. Stephenson Island has been the choice of location for the past 7 years. The attraction of the Work Horses and their sleigh on the Island prompted the name and theme of '20,000 Horses' for the Show back in 1999.

Interstate Stock & Custom is a family-oriented Club.

The Club has family picnics, Christmas Parties, and Car Cruises to different destinations throughout Wisconsin & Michigan. The favorite Cruise among many of our Members is the annual Fall Color Cruise, although Wisconsin's very unpredictable weather patterns left us driving through an unexpected snowstorm. The Club meets once a month on the last Sunday of the month. More meetings are held prior to the Car Show to organize and finalize duties of the Show.

Interstate Stock & Custom is a non-profit organization, with all proceeds from our Car Shows going to local charitable organizations. To date, the Club has donated thousands of dollars to the Red Cross, St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry, the Salvation Army, and local Fire Departments. In the past, the Club has also sponsored a scholarship to local graduates who are interested in furthering their education in the Mechanic, Auto Body, or Machinist's fields. Marinette and Menominee High Schools assisted the Club with these scholarships.

Interstate Stock & Custom's annual Car Show is held on the second Saturday in June each year, and provides fun for all ages. The Show starts at 7 AM and lasts until 3:30 PM, anyone wishing to show a car, truck, or motorcycle is welcome. An entry fee of $5.00 is required to show a vehicle. Spectators are always free. The Haven of Hope Group provides food; Russ’ Golden Oldies always play the Music.

There are games for the kids, with Hot Wheels cars given out for prizes. Spectators have their chance to vote for their favorite vehicle through the People's Choice award Ballots. The Mayor will is usually present to make his pick for the 'Mayor's Pick.'

The Awards Ceremony is usually held at 2:30 PM with over 80 trophies being handed out. On the Friday before the Car Show, the Club sponsors a Car Cruise throughout the Marinette and Menominee areas. We meet in the Stephenson Island Parking lot at 7:00 PM. The Cruise is free, and open to anyone with a Show Car, Truck, or Motorcycle!

Maps of the Cruise Routes are handed out to participants. The Cruise usually leaves the Parking Lot at 7:30 PM, and afterwards, the Club sponsors a Cruise Party at the Best Western Riverfront Inn. They have food and refreshments!
